What is UrbanPay?

UrbanPay is a payment aggregator: instead of negotiating and integrating each mobile money operator separately, you integrate UrbanPay once and collect across all of them. The platform unifies MTN, Moov, Orange and Wave, along with bank cards and electronic wallets, behind a single API. In practice, your application creates a payment request with an amount in CFA francs and a reference; the customer enters their mobile money number; a confirmation request is pushed to their handset; they approve it with their PIN. UrbanPay then notifies your server through a webhook as soon as the operator confirms the transaction, and the status of every payment stays queryable at any time. No separate contract per operator, no reconciliation logic to write for each one.

How does a payment work, step by step?

The flow is a direct push, with no redirection to a third-party site. Your server calls UrbanPay to create a transaction: amount in CFA francs, a reference of your own, and a notification URL. The customer lands on the payment page, picks their operator and enters their number. UrbanPay then triggers the request with the operator, which sends a USSD prompt to the customer's handset; they approve it with their PIN. Meanwhile the page polls the status and displays the operator's instruction. As soon as the transaction succeeds, UrbanPay calls your webhook; your server checks the amount, marks the order paid idempotently, and triggers what follows — confirmation email, access provisioning, order preparation. A replayed payment never counts twice.

Which operators and payment methods are covered?

Four mobile money players are integrated: MTN Mobile Money, Moov Money, Orange Money and Wave. That set covers the dominant habits of the markets URBAN TECHNOLOGY operates in — Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast, Gabon and Congo — where the leading operator changes from one country to the next: MTN and Moov in Benin, Moov and Togocom in Togo, Orange Money and Wave in Ivory Coast. That is exactly what an aggregator solves: your integration does not change when you open a new country. Bank cards and electronic wallets are available on top, for customers who do not pay with mobile money. Amounts are handled in CFA francs.
